Chase Family official statement regarding the death of Edgar Lawrence "Dooky" Chase, Jr. on Tuesday afternoon November 22, 2016; husband of Leah Chase for over seventy years and owner of Dooky Chase's Restaurant.
"Though we are heartbroken to share the news that Edgar "Dooky" Chase, Jr. has passed away. We greatly appreciate the outpouring of love and the many expressions of sympathy and prayers that we have received.
Dooky, Jr was our loving husband, father, Grand D, brother-in-law and friend. He was a strong, selfless, and faith-filled patriarch. He was a jazz musician, an infallible advocate for civil equality and inclusion, a proud entrepreneur and unwavering believer in the Spirit of New Orleans and the good will of people.
While we mourn his loss, we also celebrate his remarkable life and will forever cherish the life lessons he taught us. He will be truly missed by our family, friends, staff and fellow restauranteurs and musicians.
We are extremely grateful and will always remember the prayers and thoughtfulness shown to us."
