I took a buddy who had never had Cajun. I got him to eat some alligator bites. Probably, the best we've ever had. Sorry about the picture we'd already ate about half of it before, I remembered to take the picture.... I had a stuffed pork chop, and he had a shrimp, po boy, and it was all incredible. The waitress helped him out since he was a rookie. Although I could have, it was great for her to jump in, place is fun. The walls are packed with memorabilia and Louisiana style stuff. Great place, and it's a little hole in the wall from the outside, so don't let that deter you...

This is THE BEST restaurant in AUSTIN TEXAS. This place has the hottest food, coldest beer, and prettiest servers. I had the gumbo and it sent me to the good Lord himself. Give this place a try and you will leave a regular. The restaurant is very laid back and very clean. Everyone was there for a good time and great food. I will definitely be coming back again, again, again, and again.

Incredible dining experience. Feels like a cafe on the bayou, service was amazing, waitress kept our iced teas brimming. The seafood gumbo was a little thinner and smokier than I’m used to but the crawfish pistolette is maybe my favorite thing I’ve ever eaten. Just wow. French fries were a little plain. Ordered the crawfish Evangeline (I mean there’s gotta be a reason it has the titular name) and boy it was transcendant bite after bite. Managed to hold myself back and leave with a Togo box but it was a close thing. Boyfriend had the chicken fried gator and reports: delicious, super tender, almost like eating a thick chicken cutlet with no tough fibers. We will be back. It is both a blessing and a curse that we don’t live closer.

I was excited that I stumbled across some authentic Lousiania cuisine in Austin. Evangeline's is a neat Cajun inspired restaurant. The owner is actually from Louisiana. He was extremely nice and down- to-earth. He actually came out of the back once we put our order in. He said I had to come out and see who ordered this. He assumed we were from Lousiana, but I explained to him that I've spent a significant amount of time in Lousiana, and I really appreciate and enjoy both Cajun and Creole cuisine. Evangeline's has quite the menu, which I'm never mad about. I love options. As an appetizer, I order gator bites. My daughter had never tried gator, so I wanted to see if she would like it. She did! I also ordered the stuffed pistolette (not pictured) as an appetizer. They were both delicious. The gator was nice and tender and came with aioli sauce. For her entree, she went simple and ordered a combo plate with grilled shrimp basket, fried oysters, and french fries. I ordered Speedy's Catfish with Crawfish Macque Choux over rice. My food was gmvwry good. It felt like a home cooked meal vs. a restaurant. My daughter said her food was good as well. Really wish we'd visited during crawfish season. That would ha e been a treat for sure. The owner came back by before we left and graciously offered us his famous bread pudding for free. We're no stranger to southern hospitality, and that's exactly what we received at Evangeline's.

What a fabulous hidden gem! The food was seasoned to perfection. We started with the gator bites followed by the stuffed catfish and Mary Evangeline’s crawfish pasta. Everything was delicious and plentiful. The pub atmosphere was fun too.
